Frequently Asked Questions

What is applied behavior analysis (ABA)?

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the application of the science of human behavior (that is backed by peer reviewed research) in order to make positive changes in the lives of all individuals. ABA focuses on improving socially significant behaviors and is driven by data and research. ABA emphasizes the use of positive strategies to connect with children, and avoids the use of punishment procedures. Most ABA services focus on communication, compliance, social, independent living, and school-readiness skills to give children the tools they need.

Who is ABA for?

ABA is the science of human behavior - meaning it’s for everyone!

My goal is to make the science of behavior analysis accessible and simple to use for all families, caregivers, educators, babysitters, nannies, etc. I am passionate about the science of ABA but I don’t love how the science has so far been reserved mostly for professionals. All parents deserve to know the best strategies for success with their children!

Today, most insurance companies will only authorize behavioral therapy services for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This is a huge limitation in the dissemination of the science of behavior. Years and years of research has proven ABA to be effective with children and adults (and even animals) regardless of a diagnosis.

Who should consult with you?

Any parents, caregivers and educators of children under 10 years old! If you want effective parenting/teaching strategies and tips, want to learn more about reading your child’s behavior, how to handle your child’s behavior, feel lost, overwhelmed and stressed, have questions, need advice and guidance (on parenting, schools, therapies, etc.), I am here for you!

Parents and educators typically seek out my services when they have concerns regarding their child’s behavior (aggression, noncompliance, etc.), delayed skill acquisition/learning, and/or regression/loss of skills.

Parents also come to me when preschools require children to be toilet trained before starting school. I have had success rapidly toilet training most of my clients, depending on their toilet training history and learning history.

Do you only work with US clients?

Nope! I work with clients from around the world through video conferencing or in person. I have traveled internationally to provide trainings and workshops to parents, teachers and therapists on various topics related to applied behavior analysis, teaching children with Autism, and providing ethical and effective services.

What if my child has a developmental or behavioral diagnosis?

I work with families of children regardless of the child’s diagnosis. Behavior is behavior whether there is a label or not! I have extensive experience with children of ranging abilities; including those diagnosed with behavioral and developmental diagnoses (i.e ADHA, ADD, Autism Spectrum Disorders).

When should we start working together?

As early as possible! Research shows that the earlier in a child’s life we can start targeting behavior change and implementing parenting strategies, the more effective they become and the more successful the outcome.

What do consultations look like?

Consultations vary by need of the client and how long we have been working together. Typically, consultations are 1-hour; however, if you prefer to batch training sessions to cover multiple topics or extend your consult time, that is always an option if scheduled ahead of time. One instance of extending consult time may include a direct observation followed by discussion.

During consultations, we will discuss your needs, concerns, barriers, and questions in depth. I will provide insights, recommendations, trainings, and do observations if needed. Sometimes there are quick and easy modifications that parents can make to change behavior and other times there may be a need for a longer behavior plan. Either way, I am here to support you and provide you with what you need to succeed!

I provide services based on the principles of applied behavior analysis, a methodological approach that identifies environmental variables that may influence relevant social behaviors in order to develop a behavior plan which includes preventive and response strategies, and skills training. Depending on need, my services may include conducting behavioral and skill-based assessments, behavior plans, individualized learning plans, and caregiver and educator workshops and trainings.

When, where and how often are consultations?

Consultations take place either in person, online video, or phone. I am based in Los Angeles, California and Las Vegas, Nevada. I travel often so there may be an opportunity to meet in person.

What are some common topics covered during consults?

These topics often come up during consults: challenging behaviors, communication, compliance, social skills, independent living skills, school-readiness skills, recent diagnosis, finding appropriate service providers, parent training on general and/or specific topics and how to apply them.

What is the free initial consult?

When you are interested in working together, you can schedule a free initial consult with me. During this call, I like to learn more about you and your family’s needs, discuss what services may be the best fit, and answering any questions you may have. We will also discuss pricing, various types of packages, and determine the best plan for you. If you decide to continue with services, we will schedule our first official call.
